KIEV (ML) —
The title of the photographic series Kiev is inspired by a Kiev 60 camera, purchased in a second-hand camera store in Saint Petersburg. Evidence of the creative process — the mise-en-scène, lighting, and accessories — is visible in this series, which is conceived as a meditation on the photographic subject, a kind of statement for materiality.
Éliane Excoffier lives and works in Montreal. She holds a degree in Visual Arts and Art History from the Université de Montréal and has practised photography since 1996. Excoffier’s work is driven and inspired by her interest in the portrayal of the feminine body, on the one hand, and her fascination for photography, its history, techniques, and traditions, on the other. Her works are included in several public and private collections, including those of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the National Bank of Canada, Giverny Capital, and Loto-Québec.
